Within the framework of the National Workshop on Bioengineering, it became evident that Peru has high-level human capital; however, it continues to face critical gaps in infrastructure, interdisciplinary coordination, and the development of its own biomedical technologies. The establishment of a National Center for Bioengineering (CNB) represents a strategic opportunity to transform these gaps into national capabilities by promoting applied research, technology transfer, and science-based entrepreneurship with impact in health, agriculture, the environment, and industry. Drawing on our experience in biotechnology, microgravity, and applied space technologies, we consider that mechanisms such as Works for Taxes and Services for Taxes can accelerate the sustainable implementation of the CNB, reducing fiscal risks and strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty. As a Peruvian science-based company, BioTechCell S.A.C., in coordination with academia and the scientific community, is committed to integrated bioengineering as a driver of national development and societal well-being. This commitment emphasizes collaboration, evidence-based policy, capacity building, international partnerships, ethical innovation, inclusive education, resilient infrastructure, and long-term investment to ensure measurable impact across regions and generations.

Closing of the International Workshop on Bioengineering Reinforces Commitment to Peru’s Scientific Development

The closing of the International Workshop on Bioengineering, held at the Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC), marked the conclusion of a high-level academic event that brought together students, researchers, and professionals committed to the country’s scientific development. Organized in collaboration with the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS – UTEC) and sponsored by BioTechCell S.A.C., the event highlighted the potential of bioengineering as a key discipline for addressing challenges in health, technology, and innovation. Throughout the workshop, experiences and advances in bioengineering, biotechnology, biomedical technologies, and space applications were shared, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among academia, industry, and the State. The active participation of the academic community reaffirmed the need to strengthen collaborative ecosystems and to promote initiatives such as the establishment of a National Center for Bioengineering, focused on applied research and technology transfer

BioTechCell SAC Congratulates Yostyn on the Successful Defense of His Thesis on Biosensors for HPV Detection

BioTechCell SAC extends its sincere congratulations to Yostyn for the achievement attained through the successful and rigorous defense of his thesis, developed within the framework of a research project promoted by the company at its biotechnology laboratory.

The study aimed to immobilize the E6 and E7 molecular structures on a gold-coated carbon conductive substrate in order to develop an electrochemical biosensor for the detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16. The research was carried out at the BioTechCell SAC laboratory, employing advanced methodologies such as cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy using the Palmsens4 system and PS Trace 10 software.

The results demonstrated the high sensitivity and specificity of the biosensor, showing a significant increase in charge transfer resistance and total impedance when discriminating between target and non-target DNA. These findings validate the proposed hypothesis and position the biosensor as a promising tool for the early diagnosis of HPV type 16, with potential extension to other high-risk subtypes.

BioTechCell SAC highlights Yostyn’s commitment, dedication, and scientific rigor throughout the research process. These genes were therefore termed overlapping genes, a concept derived from discoveries made through experiments conducted both aboard the International Space Station and in microgravity simulation platforms, highlighting the innovative nature of the research.

The main objective of the study was to determine the independent expression of the genes ImpL3, DnaJ-1, CG4726, and CG5326 in Drosophila melanogaster using the UAS-RNAi/GAL4 system. Experimental work was carried out at the Percy Guzmán Padilla Ríos Microgravity Laboratory of INICTEL-UNI, employing RT-PCR techniques for semi-quantitative gene expression analysis.

The results confirmed the independent expression of ImpL3, DnaJ-1, and CG4726, while CG5326 did not show functional independence from CG4726. These findings provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms of genes associated with cancer research.

BioTechCell S.A.C. highlights Katerin’s dedication, scientific rigor, and commitment throughout the research process, as well as the academic leadership of Dr. David Laván.
